If you couldn’t tell already by my Facebook posts, tweets on Twitter and Instagram photos, I recently went to Miami to celebrate my friends birthday.
Before going to Miami, we already had a set list of things we wanted to do which included jet skiing. Thus on our second day in Miami after catching a few sun rays, we found a spot on the beach that rented jet skiis.
I quickly approached the guy in charge and asked for the price. He said $85 for 30min. This was extremely reasonable for my friend and I since everywhere else was over $100.
Little did we know, there was more to do besides paying the $85. Apparently since we were under 26, we had to pass a Boaters Education Test. We didn’t believe the guy until he gave us an actual fill-in-the-bubble test along with an old, crumbled up boaters manual, which resembled a drivers test booklet.
My friend and I literally spent a half hour on the beach completing this test. We had to get 19 right in order to pass. I kept thinking to myself “This can’t be life.” I mean really, all of that just to ride a jet ski?!
There were questions about what you should do if you’re being overtaken by another boat, what side of a red buoy you should ride on, something about sawgrass. Ugh, basically a whole lot of stuff that had nothing to do with jet skis.
I did however learn that in the state of Florida it is illegal to allow someone under the age of 14 to operate a PWC (personal water craft) and it’s illegal to rent/sale a PWC to anyone under 18. That’ll be my fun fact of the day for the next couple of months lol
Needless to say I passed and had a great time ripping through the waves. It was my second time riding a jet ski and I was way more comfortable than my first. I went far out at unreasonable speeds and didn’t care how much water splashed on my face.
Basically, I’m writing all of this to say that not only did Miami serve me good food and fun but it also certified me to operate a vessel in Florida.
