If you dislike Beyoncé for any reason whether it be her music, her world domination or because of her crazy fans, this piece is for you. If you love Beyoncé just as much as I do, then please read on too. However, I must preface by saying my intent for writing this is not to praise Beyoncé for the Queen that she is. Rather, I hope to show the positive qualities she possesses that lives within all of us or at least us women.

1. As someone who is also a Daddy’s Girl, there comes a time when you realize your vision has become clouded. You grow up doing all of these things to make your dad proud. You just know that when he smiles at you, everything will be alright. Then you become an adult and you learn that the perfect world your dad created for you really isn’t perfect. You discover heartbreak, you discover pain, you discover selfishness and you learn that none of that can be easily fixed.

According to her interview with Oprah, Beyoncé said she fired her long-time manager, Mathew Knowles (her dad) because she wanted her father back. She also mentioned that even after firing him, she didn’t even get her dad back. Right now in this moment, I understand. I feel like all women at some point in their life have to take a step back and a step out of that “daddy’s girl” image or whatever image people have of you in order to grow into the person God wants you to be.

2. Becoming a woman who is happy and fulfilled is hard! I don’t care what men go through, they could NEVER spend a day in our shoes. Between our own insecurities, the media, our beef with each other, our wanting to be loved, we sometimes strive for things that are impossible. Beyoncé has a song on her new album called “Pretty Hurts.” It’s about the desire to want to become something that you’re not and live up to a set of standards that aren’t real. Then at the end of the day, you reflect and ask yourself the simple question “Are you happy?”

She has another song on that album called “Flawless.” This song is actually more about embracing who you are and not allowing anyone to tell you who you should be and what you should do with your life. I love these two songs because of their message. I know what it feels like to be pressured by the media and those around you to become something that is the complete opposite of who you are. I know what it’s like to feel angry and misunderstood. I also know what it’s like to feel vulnerable and weak. These are feelings that ALL women go through! How could you not relate?

3. Love is beautiful! When you find it with the right person, it’s the most amazing thing ever. Or at least that’s what she makes it seem like lol.

4. Finally, life is hard but worth every bit of the struggle. For a long time, women would aspire to be things but never took action. We had a role and we couldn’t step out of that. Society placed us in a box and if we dared to change that, we were ridiculed and called all types of names. Yet, look at Beyoncé. Her drive is incredible and inspiring. In a way, I look at her and see myself. I don’t have to settle for anything. I can be who or what ever I want to be. I can accomplish my goals and be respected by my peers.

It’s crazy how society makes women feel like they’re missing out on the “important things” in life because they choose to focus on their career and making a name for themselves. Do we say this to men? Do we downplay their accomplishments?

I don’t know why people dislike Beyoncé but I know why I love her. Anybody who knows me knows that I am far from a dumb girl and I don’t just look up to anybody. However, I do see Beyoncé as a role model. I don’t want to be her but I definitely can learn from the things that she does.

Can you?
