The following is a Twitter conversation I had with someone I don’t know and have never met before.
Unknown: nice boots you gat today
Me: ????
Unknown: Cromwell
Me: but do I know you?
Unknown: maybe. I set my about.com’s location to Towson some weeks back and it gave me a listing people popular by location.
Unknown: Today as I boarded the rain, I saw a face just like that about.com gv me weeks back. So my first tweet s to confirm.
Me: you do realize how creepy this is?
Unknown: so sorry if it’s creepy. I was only surprised I was able to match your face to profile about.me posted that we share a location.
‘Cromwell’ refers to a light rail stop right outside of Baltimore. ‘About.me’ refers to a site, I have a profile on. However on that profile, it says Washington, DC metro area not my exact location. Or at least I thought.
What if this person was mentally ill and followed me home? What if this person knows my daily routine and “watches” me?
This is beyond creepy and uncomfortable! I ended up blocking him and now I need to go change my about.me settings.
