I don’t mind publicly sharing pictures of myself online. After all, nothing is ever truly private on the web. However, having someone use your photo on their site without you knowing is by far what scares me the most about the internet.
Can you imagine just randomly scrolling through your Tumblr feed and seeing an image of yourself on someone else’s blog? Or even seeing your face as the profile picture to a twitter or Facebook account that isn’t yours?
In the words of Kanye West, “That shit cray!” LOL Like seriously, am I the only one freaked out about the idea of my personal photos being used on random sites without my permission?
Granted, this does happen frequently with celebrities. They basically lose their identity as paparazzi and media officials constantly take photos of them to promote their own brand. Yet, I must point out that I am NOT a celebrity and not even close to an internet phenomenon.
I am a regular 22-year-old woman with a family, friends, and dependable job. I never thought someone using my photo would be an issue until… yesterday when I got this message.
It’s not even the fact that he Google image searched me and found me that scares me the most. It’s the simple fact that when I visited the web link, my picture was already posted.
At that point, in my eyes it really doesn’t matter whether I agree to keep the picture up or not. He already has the picture and can post it, delete it, and re-post it as he sees fit.
It makes me wonder, why even contact me after you posted the picture? Then it makes me think, where else my photos could be floating around.
Here’s the actual webpage:
While I appreciate the nice comments, this is still super scary! As of Sunday night at 7:30pm, this post received 269 likes and 11 shares.
