All is well folks! I have officially arrived in Charlotte, NC, for the Democratic National Convention. After numerous stops to fast food restaurants, long political conversations with other graduate students also attending, I have finally settled in to where I will be staying the next three days.
On the campus of Barber Scotia College, the bedrooms are small with a decent sized closet space and a bed that’s surprisingly comfortable. We had a few mishaps like the thermostat was set to 65 degrees so we were freezing! Then of course there’s community showers. (Thank goodness I bought Lysol and Clorox cleaning wipes!) It makes me feel like I was spoiled at Stevenson with our own private bathrooms and thermostats. It’s not all that bad though, because we do have wi-fi and the staff here is really welcoming.
I would give a breakdown of every single person here but just know that everyone is talkative, experienced and older than me. I have partnered up with a girl named Alicia who seems to share the same views as me as far why we attended this trip. We were cracking jokes all night long. Lol
Last night, courtesy of Georgetown, we had a lovely dinner at Carrabas. I had a delicious wood-grilled salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and a caesar salad. For dessert, Alicia and I shared a “Chocolate Dream,” basically a brownie cake with chocolate mousse and whip cream layers.
It is approximately 5:52AM and our call time is 7AM. Yes, every day we have to be ready by 7AM to take the bus to the convention center. I’m not complaining though. I don’t know what the schedule is for today but breakfast will be provided by either Bloomberg or Politico.
Until next time…
