Oyinade [OH-YIN-AH-DAY] is a Communications and Creative Design professional living in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area.
Born and raised in a small town in Maryland, she began her career in community service after a gang related fight led her high school to be put on lock down and broadcasted on the local news. In response to this, Oyinade started a chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions and took on a leadership role at a local nonprofit organization to help increase students involvement in positive activities.
After graduating in the top five percentile of her high school class, Oyinade was determined to continue making an impact in the community even on her small college campus of Stevenson University. During this period, Oyinade maintained a steady job in the school’s library, helped with new student orientation over the summer, worked alongside the career services department on career fairs and networking events, and also volunteered around campus in several other different capacities.
However, none of those activities were as meaningful to Oyinade than when she became one of 13 members to successfully charter the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Tau Theta Chapter at Stevenson University on April 3, 2011. Holding an officer position for two years, Oyinade helped the chapter maintain an online presence through producing and maintaining content for the chapter website and social media platforms. She also helped the chapter garner a national presence with articles printed in the sorority’s national publication.
And yet, Oyinade’s work didn’t stop there. In the summer of 2011, Oyinade also interned with Washington, DC’s CBS Radio affiliates. Working directly under WPGC’s 95.5 midday host, Sunni, Oyinade wrote blog posts, read radio spots and interacted with listeners at local community events.
After achieving her Bachelor of Science degree in English and Information Systems from Stevenson University, Oyinade went on to serve two AmeriCorps service terms with Public Allies Maryland. As an Ally, Oyinade worked as Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake’s Outreach Coordinator to recruit volunteers, assist in partnership development, and facilitate the volunteer application process.
While completing those two consecutive service terms, Oyinade was also earning her Master of Professional Studies degree in Public Relations/Corporate Communications from Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies. Through this graduate program, Oyinade garnered the necessary skills to create communications plans for clients such as the Boy Scouts of America, Dangerously Delicious Pies, the DC Improv and The Hamilton.
Continuing her commitment to service, Oyinade worked with the Corporation for National and Community Service’s (CNCS) Office of External Affairs and Social Innovation Fund to help launch nationwide grant competitions and assist in the coordination of the agency’s special initiatives such as, the Martin Luther King Jr., Day of Service. In 2016, she took her talents to New York City where she furthered her love for fashion as the Assistant Media Manager for The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. An occasional freelance photographer, Oyinade was named a “Fashionista Maxxinista” by former colleagues and featured in The Baltimore Sun for her cool sense of fashion.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Oyinade moved back to Maryland and took up the position as Communications Manager with the Georgetown University Center for Children for Families. She is currently the Creative Services Manager at CCI Health Services.
