Not only was I featured in the Baltimore Sun for my fashion sense but BBBS also presented me with a Certificate of Appreciation and the “Fashionista Maxxinista” Award!
It’s bittersweet that my Americorps service term is coming to an end and I’ll be leaving Big Brothers Big Sisters soon. But I am forever grateful for the opportunities I was given within these two years to learn, grow, laugh and create everlasting bonds.
Here are few I used to be… but now I am… ways I’ve changed:
- I used to be reserved and to myself, but now I am not afraid to speak up and express my own opinions.
- I used to get nervous when having to speak in front of groups of people, but now I am more confident.
- I used to be very naive to the idea of planning things all the way out ahead of time, but now I see the value in it.
- I used to think I was the only one who felt very strongly about certain social justice issues, but now I realize I am not alone.
- I used to be unaware of the problems facing inner-city youth, but now I am more informed.
