It’s finally over!
2012 has come to a close along with my first semester at Georgetown. I must say it has been a wonderful year for me. I graduated undergrad, went on vacation, enrolled in grad school, went to the DNC in Charlotte, and became an Americorps member all in one year! If last year was just the prequel to my life, I can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store.
I look forward to learning more in my field of study and meeting new people along the way. If it’s one thing 2012 has taught me, it’s “you get what you put in.” If you work hard, eventually you’ll start to reap the benefits. I’ve noticed that the more I apply myself, the greater my results. It’s such a simple concept that for some, like me, takes years to understand.
In a country where jobs are constantly being outsourced and families and communities are being broken down systematically, it’s no wonder we’ve grown to become an individualistic culture. I, too, have grown that way. But that’s only because I’m never satisfied with “just getting by.” I want to be ahead. That’s my goal.
With that being said, this new year I’m striving to become a better “me.” This means that all of my talents I stumbled upon in 2012, I will work hard to master in 2013. All of the mistakes I made, I won’t make again. All of the problems I faced before, I’ll know how to prevent later.
Maturity isn’t defined by your age, but by your wisdom and experience. I am finally in a place where I know exactly what I want. Now the path to get there, I’m not too sure of. But if 2012 wasn’t enough of an indication that I’m doing the right thing, then I’m sure 2013 will be.
P.S. Final Grades Are In!
