As National Mentoring Month comes to a close, here’s a rap-up of everything I did with Big Brothers Big Sisters!

On “Thank Your Mentor Day” we invited all of our Bigs and Littles to come to the Walters Art Museum and see their new exhibit “Revealing the African Presence in Renaissance Europe.”

We walked with the Mayor’s procession at the MLK Day Parade.

We attended an event hosted by Steve Harvey for the purpose of recruiting male mentors. It was great to see a whole room full of men interested in servicing their community.

We held a Call to Action: Community Forum on the “Impact of Mentoring on the Academic Achievement of Urban Youth”

This event was amazing! We had Mark Byrd from the Governor’s office issue a proclamation on National Mentoring Month. We also had Councilman Brandon Scott introduce opening remarks as well as having Anthony McCarthy moderate the event. Our panel of speakers all did a great job on offering statistics on Baltimore’s youth and how the community can help.

Earlier that day we were able to join WEAA at Peace and a Cup of Joe with Mark Steiner and David Miller.
